The Grizzly March  J. J. Richards of Pittsburg, Kansas was commissioned by the the Fort Smith, Arkansas High School Band (now the Northside High School Band) to compose The Grizzly March. The Alma Mater, the trio of The Grizzly March, was composed by Harry Alford of Chicago, and the words were written by Opal Clark. Little is known about the march, and to our knowledge it is previously unpublished. The handwritten parts were in tatters and no score has been located. Composer/arranger Charles Booker was approached in late 2025 by Aaron Durham, the head director of the Northside H.S. Band, to create a new score from the parts and “clear up” any inconsistencies or errors in orchestration. The premiere of this new (or old) exciting march is scheduled for some time in 2026.
