Monument Square

Many communities throughout this great Nation feature a town square in the center of the community. Many of those town squares feature “monuments” or “tributes” to those who gave their lives to protect their communities. One such monument on which this work is based exists in Lewistown, Pennsylvania and honors those lives lost during the Civil War. This monument also has the distinction of featuring a stone from the Tomb of Abraham Lincoln (Springfield, Illinois).
Commissioned by the Lewistown Concert Band which performs many of its concerts on Monument Square in Lewistown. This fanfarish, celebratory concert work features solid melodic lines for every section of the concert band. Ideal as a concert opener or in celebration of any holiday, patriotic occasion or in recognition of any community heroes.
